Craven Literacy Council is a volunteer-based provider of adult literacy instruction. For 25 years, CLC has been changing lives of families in Craven, Jones, and Pamlico counties by providing adults with a place to establish and enhance basic reading and writing skills. In recent years, CLC has also developed a curriculum to teach non-native speakers English as a Second Language. We use individualized learning plans for adult learners and supplement this instruction with small groups and specialized class instruction.
CLC has over 125 specially trained volunteer tutors certified by ProLiteracy, 10 other volunteers and over 200 students. Most of our students are actively employed in our local labor market and are learning to be even more productive individuals, workers, parents and citizens.
